Our Educational Philosophy STENBERG COLLEGE’S EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY Our educational philosophy is based on a developmental constructivist position that expresses itself through a learner-centric outcomes focus….What does that mean? The developmental position means that education is not just learning a set of job skills or memorizing facts but facilitating higher order awareness, thinking, problem solving, emotional maturity, and social skills that will distinguish us as excellent contributors in work and life, and provide a quality experience of life as balanced self-determined people. The constructivist position means that our focus is not on what we teach but on what students learn; not on where we are at and what we need, but where our students are at and what they need to achieve success as they define it. This means discovering and honoring the strengths, values, and knowledge they have acquired on their journey and building on that foundation. Furthermore, "we believe in empowering people through education”[1] and that education adds value to people and to society – the job of everyone at Stenberg offers an opportunity to contribute to this goal. We aspire to deliver a superior quality of education to our students. To achieve this goal we are selective about whom we are enrolling as students, while combining the right people, motivation, infrastructure, facilities and technology to deliver exceptional educational results. We offer a wide range of such opportunities for our people, ranging from our own on-line TEC Instructor Development Program, to a range of regular in-house educational workshops, life skills seminars, and an annual organization-wide Strategic Planning Session.
