Programs
For over 20 years, Stenberg College has delivered quality education, focusing on health care (and human services) certificate and diploma programs. The programs are responsive to the needs of the industry and the curriculum is updated frequently to reflect changes and trends. By offering condensed programs, you will spend less time in the classroom and begin your career and start earning a wage sooner. You will benefit from an intimate learning environment, receiving more one-on-one time with instructors. All of the programs at Stenberg College include a practicum, giving you the opportunity to get out of the classroom and obtain real work experience. Health Care & Human Services Programs
Cardiology Technologist: Prepares you for the national certification exam so you can become registered with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists. This is required for all cardiology technologist positions. You will be able to pursue career opportunities in hospitals, clinics, and labs.
Community Support & Outreach Worker: Work with people who endure mental illnesses and/or developmental disabilities, learning how to assist with personal care, leisure, and recreational activities. This program will prepare you to work out of an individual residence, supportive housing centre, community outreach centre, or day facility.
Early Childhood Educator (ECE): Learn how to administer activities that contribute to a child’s physical, mental, and emotional development, as well as how to properly observe and document behaviour. You will assist a child with developing independent thought and will teach them to respect and encourage diversity. This program will lead you to begin a career in preschools, nursery schools, daycares, and other child care centres.
Hospital Support Specialist: Learn how to offer administrative support throughout various hospital departments: schedule appointments, admit and register patients, manage medical charts, collect patient information, and ensure patient records are accurate and complete. This program will lead you to a career in a number of hospital positions, long-term care facilities, private clinics, and more.
Medical Office Assistant: Support health care professionals by performing a range of administrative and clinical duties, becoming proficient with medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathology. The skills and abilities you attain through your training will be valued in all types of health care offices including family practices, physiotherapy clinics, hospitals, and surgical centres.
Nursing Unit Clerk: As the communication hub for a hospital or other medical facility, you will help your unit run in an organized and efficient manner, handling many of the administrative activities related to admissions, transfers, and discharges and performing transcription for medication, lab, surgical, and diagnostic orders.
Health Care Assistant (formerly Resident Care Attendant): Learn how to offer support to elderly individuals, helping them maintain a level of independence while easing their pain and improving their quality of life. Be able to observe and record their progress and gain a full understanding of the aging process and common ailments. Your knowledge and abilities will lead you to career opportunities within extended care facilities, home support agencies, and assisted living program centres.
Special Education Assistant: Gain the skills and abilities needed to help special needs children and youth, as well as providing vital support to elementary and secondary school teachers. Be prepared to take on Special Education Assistant and Teacher Assistant positions within public and private schools, and community centres.
Nursing Programs
Practical Nursing: Learn how to work under the direction of registered nurses and doctors, providing direct patient care. You will be shown how to monitor patients, update progress reports, deliver medications and assist with patient rehabilitation. You will promote health and healing for people of all ages in hospitals, long term care facilities, and mental health centres.
Psychiatric Nursing: Study online and prepare to work in psychiatric nursing and other mental health areas. Study the areas of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, and develop proficiency with psychiatry, psychology, and pathophysiology. You will explore the areas of counseling and psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as substance use and misuse.
