Program Advisory Committees

Stenberg College works very closely with all of our industry partners to ensure that our programs meet and exceed their needs. We currently have designated Program Advisory Committees for our Cardiology Technologist, Regional Psychiatric Nursing, Medical Lab Assistant, Hospital Support Specialist - Medical Office Assistant, Nursing Unit Clerk and Special Education Assistant Programs and we also host specifically focused, special industry advisory meetings for our other programs. PACs meet at least once annually to discuss pertinent professional issues and assist in on-going program evaluation by reviewing curriculum, program outcomes and institutional, as well as program specific, policies and procedures.

Stenberg Program Advisory Committee (PAC) Composition:

  • Employers (current & potential) of program graduates.
  • Persons from relevant licensing bodies, professional associations or unions.
  • Host Site Supervisors/Preceptors.
  • A graduate from the program.
  • A current student from the program.
  • Program Faculty.
  • Director of Education, Director of Industry Relations, Career Services Coordinator, Director of Faculty & Student Affairs, Program Advisors, Graduate Services.

PAC Functions:
The Program Advisory Committee serves several functions. A partial list includes the following:

  • Assist in the periodic evaluation of existing programs and suggest changes to them to keep content and teaching methods current for accreditation.
  • Critique and endorse recommendations for new and changed programs and assist in the development of their outcome competencies, objectives and curricula.
  • Recommend faculty qualifications.
  • Assist the college in recruiting faculty.
  • Review facilities and equipment and recommend competency related equipment purchases and upgrades for technical programs.
  • Review job preparation of the graduates and recommend ways in which their job readiness can be improved.
  • Advise faculty on possible internship, practicum, field placement, work study, co-op, preceptorship opportunities for students and provide such opportunities themselves whenever possible.
  • Review student achievement outcomes.
  • Provide feedback on the effectiveness and competence of graduates from the program.
  • Help with improving access for learning resources (virtual and physical) for the college.
  • If possible, provide or sponsor bursaries or scholarships for students in the programs.
  • Act as ambassadors for the college and its programs to the community at large.
  • Partner with the college to advocate with various levels of industry.
  • Alert the college to professional development opportunities.
  • Alert the college to new legislation affecting the occupation and regulatory requirements from licensing bodies.
  • Review student evaluations, both classroom and practical and make suggestions for improvements.
