CARDIOLOGY TECHNOLOGIST

Ramon Estrella, Instructor- Cardiology Technologist
Ramon has worked as a cardiology technologist for the past 25 years, and is an active member of the Cardiology Technologists Associations of B.C., and the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists. He began his career in education as an Educational Coordinator with the CTABC, and has been teaching the Cardiology Technologist program at Stenberg College for the past five years. Ramon feels an intrinsic sense of satisfaction when his students successfully pass the program and receive their certification. He feels Cardio Techs play a vital role in the healthcare industry, as they are often the first point of contact for patients with heart problems and help to ‘unlock the mystery of the heart.’ In his spare time, Ramon enjoys travelling and playing classic guitar.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT & OUTREACH WORKER

Evelyn Phaneuf, Instructor- Community Support & Outreach Worker
Evelyn has been teaching at Stenberg College for almost 20 years, and cites the incredible team and enthusiastic atmosphere for her tenure. After working as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Evelyn wanted to share her knowledge and passion for health care with others. She finds teaching the Community Support & Outreach Worker Diploma Program particularly gratifying, as her students move on to assist and support those with developmental and/or mental disabilities to live their best life. Evelyn is a registered member of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR

Pat Bates, Instructor – Early Childhood Educator
Pat has been involved in the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) field for 26 years, 16 of which she has spent teaching. After years of working in and operating her own childcare facility, she developed an interest in best preparing students to enter the field, leading her to instructing. She feels ECE students at Stenberg College have a unique experience with small class sizes and a broad range of student support services. She notes that a career as an ECE is an excellent career choice, not only because of the job opportunities, but also due to the rewarding nature of the work. Pat holds her ECE Certification, Montessori A.M.I Certification, and Instructor Education Certificate.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

Lisa Semenoff, Instructor - ESL, Life Skills Coach
Teaching for over 10 years, Lisa holds her Teaching Certificate, Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology from The University of Victoria, and Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. Her background assists her in determining students' strengths and weaknesses inside the classroom, allowing her to give students the tools they need to overcome challenges. She finds watching students improve their English communication skills and grow into qualified professionals to be the most rewarding aspect of her role.

HOSPITAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Sonia Ireland, Instructor- Hospital Support Specialist
Sonia has been employed in the Health Industry for over 20 years, specializing in Patient Registration Services. She finds the diversity and challenges to be the most rewarding aspect of working in healthcare.

Danielle Maristany- Instructor, Hospital Support Specialist
Danielle's enthusiasm for teaching stems from watching her students grow academically and achieve professional success. Being part of a student's educational development gives Danielle a great sense of accomplishment, as she is making an impact on their career goals. Certified as a Medical Office Assistant, she values the comprehensive learning environment and challenging curriculum Stenberg provides its students, helping to ensure their continued success.
 

MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT

Tammy Pencer, Instructor- Medical Office Assistant
Prior to joining Stenberg College as an instructor, Tammy spent 10 years working as a Medical Office Assistant. She feels a great sense of pride when she sees her students walk across the graduation stage, as she knows first hand the effort they put into reaching their career goals. In her spare time, Tammy is actively involved in the community as a volunteer for her son’s football organization,and assists various charities such as ‘Christmas Dreams Come True’ for less fortunate families.

NURSING UNIT CLERK

Wendy Scott, Instructor- Nursing Unit Clerk
As a Stenberg College nursing unit clerk graduate, we are proud to have Wendy on board as an instructor. Prior to this, Wendy has worked both as a nursing unit clerk, and a clinical monitor. A talented artist, Wendy discovered her desire to teach over 10 years ago as a painting instructor. She finds working with students an ongoing adventure, and is thrilled when they cross the finish line and become successful graduates. Wendy is currently a member of the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators, Society of Decorative Artists, and holds her Teaching Certification. A woman of many talents, Wendy also holds her private pilot’s license.

PRACTICAL NURSING

Dishy Banipal, Instructor- Practical Nursing
Dishy values the continuous learning experience teaching provides her. An instructor at Stenberg College for the past four years, she enjoys interacting with students and contributing to the development of future nurses. Dishy holds her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is enhancing her professional development by pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia. She is certified in Neonatal CPR and First Aid, and holds her breastfeeding counselor certificate. Dishy is a member of the Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia.

Nishi Basra, Instructor- Practical Nursing
Nishi has been a Registered Nurse for sixteen years, and holds diverse experience working in areas such as gerontology, general medicine, short stay surgery, and disease control. Nishi is proud of the supportive learning environment Stenberg College provides their students, and takes great satisfaction in seeing her students achieve their educational objectives. In her spare time, she manages her son’s soccer team and is President of the Davinder Basra Memorial Foundation, which raises funds for the BC Cancer Agency. An active member of her son’s Parent Advisory Committee, she has served as vice-president for the past three years.

Rose Tiu, Instructor- Practical Nursing
A Licensed Practical Nurse, Rose has been instructing at Stenberg College for over 2 years. She feels tremendous pride watching her students learn and grow as professionals. Rose thrives on watching her students become wonderful nurses, and feels a sense of fulfillment being part of their educational journey. She believes the abundant career opportunities, coupled with the ability to develop personally and professionally, make nursing an excellent career choice.

PSYCHIATRIC NURSING

Kim Bagshaw, Instructor- Psychiatric Nursing
Kim holds her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Diplomas in both General Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing. She feels psychiatric nursing is a rewarding field that helps to bring hope to those with mental illness and assists them to enrich their lives. Kim has always enjoyed the academia of the teaching and learning environment, and finds the drive and dedication of her students to be the most rewarding aspect of her job.

Lynda Bowes, Instructor- Psychiatric Nursing
As a Psychiatric Nurse, Lynda began instructing to share her wealth of knowledge, experience and professional standards to new graduates. She believes flexibility in education is key to student success, and has observed first-hand how the combination of online courses with clinical practice has allowed more students to complete the Psychiatric Nursing program at Stenberg College than otherwise possible. She has enjoyed working as an RPN because of the versatility it provides to explore areas of interest, as well as the moments of personal growth she has experienced.

Jaime Greenslade, Instructor- Psychiatric Nursing; Student Recruitment & Clinical Placement Coordinator
Jaime obtained her diploma in Psychiatric Nursing because she wanted to help others improve their quality of life. When monitoring new nurses on the jobsite, she greatly enjoyed contributing to their understanding of nursing and began teaching as a result. In addition to instructing, Jaime assists the union representative for the B.C. Nurses Union- Kamloops Regional Corrections Center.

Sherri Leon Torres- Instructor- Psychiatric Nursing
Sherri holds her Licensed Practical Nursing Diploma from the College of the Rockies and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Northern B.C. Teaching for over 4 years, she was drawn to Stenberg’s RPN program because of the deep reach the innovative online delivery provides potential students throughout B.C. She finds student ‘aha’ moments to be the most rewarding aspect of her job, and believes that continuing education is as much a part of general nursing as administering medication. Sherri is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing through Athabasca University.

Heather Price, Instructor- Psychiatric Nursing
Heather possesses a wealth of education in nursing, including her RN and Advanced Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing. After mentoring many nursing students over the years, instructing was the next natural step in her career. Living up north, Heather knows first-hand the challenges students face when seeking schooling in remote areas, and appreciates that Stenberg is able to deliver this unique program to various regions throughout B.C. Heather is actively involved in the Canadian Group Psychotherapy Association.

Don Tufford, Instructor- Psychiatric Nursing
Don received his diploma in Psychiatric Nursing from the School of Psychiatric Nursing at the Manitoba Developmental Centre and currently serves as a Director for the local Union of Psychiatric Nurses and workplace representative for the CRPNBC. He feels psychiatric nursing is a rewarding field with great job satisfaction, and particularly enjoys watching his student’s growth over the course of their studies. Don appreciates the supportive learning environment Stenberg promotes, and feels it is pertinent to student success.

SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT

Lisa Shaw, Instructor- Special Education Assistant
Teaching for over 16 years, Lisa enjoys instructing at Stenberg because it gives her the opportunity to work with like-minded individuals who aspire to excellence in education and health care. Lisa is inspired by her students on a daily basis- watching them develop their skills and grow into professionals making a difference in their community. This makes her job highly rewarding. Lisa's educational background includes her Family Support Worker Diploma, Trauma Victims Support Worker Diploma, and her Provincial Instructor Diploma. In her spare time, Lisa is passionate about travelling, as it broadens her ideas about culture and diversity.
