Meet our Therapeutic Recreation Blogger: Meet Dani

My name is Dani and I’m in the Therapeutic Recreation (Gerontology) program at Stenberg College.

I am originally from Edmonton, AB and moved to the Lower Mainland 8 years ago to pursue my post secondary education. After changing my mind a few times (oops!) I completed a BSc at Simon Fraser University in Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology. I had been working as a Kinesiologist for a few months and even though I loved my job, there was something missing. There were aspects of private health care that I thought could use improvement, not only for the patient but also for the therapist. That’s when a friend suggested I try Recreation Therapy. And I’m sure glad they did!

So far the staff at Stenberg and the students in my class have been awesome! I can’t wait to share my experience with you! When I’m not working or studying, you can probably find me on the track: I’m in my third year playing full contact roller derby for the Vancouver league Terminal City Rollergirls. It’s a huge time commitment but an excellent workout and a community filled with amazing women! If you haven’t seen it, you gotta check it out!
