Education


Pat Bates

Instructor, Early Childhood Education Certificate Program

Pat has been involved in the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) field for 30 years, 19 of which she has spent teaching. Pat holds her ECE Certification, Montessori A.M.I Certification, and Instructor Education Certificate. After years of working in and operating her own childcare facility, she developed an interest in best preparing students to enter the field, leading her to instructing. She feels ECE students at Stenberg College have a unique experience with small class sizes and a broad range of student support services. Pat has been involved with the Early Childhood Education Program at Stenberg since the program began in 2007.

Sharmaine Kamware

Instructor, Early Childhood Education Certificate Program

Sharmaine Kamwere is an in-class instructor and practicum monitor in Stenberg’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program. Sharmaine has over 14 years of experience in the ECE field, working with infants, toddlers, preschool and daycare programs. A Stenberg instructor since 2011, Sharmaine enjoys the interactive nature of Stenberg’s ECE program, and the fact that courses are held at a childcare facility, allowing her and students the opportunity to interact with children on a daily basis. Sharmaine enjoys keeping up with trends In the ECE field, and has completed a variety of professional development workshops, both as an instructor and as an ECE Educator.

Mark Kerr

Lead Instructor, Education Assistant Diploma Program

Mark Kerr is the lead instructor for Stenberg’s Education Assistant program. Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with distinction from Simon Fraser University, as well as a certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis. He is currently working towards his Master’s Degree in Psychology at the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining Stenberg in 2014, he worked for four years in crisis and suicide prevention at the Vancouver Crisis Centre. Currently, he works as an independent behaviour consultant, as well as a consultant for SOSBC in the parent-driven autism services division. Mark loves his work as an instructor and a consultant, and is incredibly passionate about his students and clients alike.

Dee Beattie

Instructor, Education Assistant Diploma Program

Dee Beattie is an Education Assistant with over 25 years of experience working with medically fragile students, autism, FAS, elementary, high school, segregated, full inclusion, hearing impaired, vision impaired, work experience, and students who exhibit violent behaviour. A core instructor at Stenberg, Dee holds an Education Assistant Diploma, and is currently pursuing her Adult Educators Certification through NACC. Dee’s favourite thing about working at Stenberg is the quality of service provided to students, and the opportunity to inspire future Education Assistants.

Lovey Sidhu

Instructor, Education Assistant Diploma Program

Lovey Sidhu has been a Stenberg instructor since 2005. A life-long learner, Lovey holds a Master of Education from Simon Fraser University, as well as a Provincial Instructor Diploma Program, an Executive Education Certificate and a Bachelor of Arts. At Stenberg, Lovey teaches online and in-class courses, deliver instructor development courses, and designs and develops curriculum. She is committed to ensuring the success of her students, and aims to transform them into the best version of themselves as professionals.

Dr. Kenneth Cole

Instructor, Education Assistant Diploma Program

Dr. Kenneth Cole is a Psychologist on staff at the Provincial Outreach Program for Autism and Related Disorders. In addition, he is a District Psychologist in School District #36 (Surrey). “Dr. Ken” is a passionate educator who is eager to share with others how they might provide sensible as well as strategic support for all persons who have autism. He has been providing this training in the Stenberg SEA program since 2010. Dr. Cole was also recently honoured with the Stenberg College President’s Award. This award is presented annually to a healthcare and human services professional who has inspired our community through their actions and words.

Dana Elliott

Program Coordinator, Pharmacy Technician Diploma Program

Dana Elliott is the Program Coordinator of the Pharmacy Technician Program at Stenberg College. She has been working as a Pharmacy Technician in both community & hospital pharmacies for the past 22 years. Dana works on both the instructional and development side of the Pharmacy Technician Program: monitoring students in the field and working in curriculum development. She is a member of the Canadian Association of the Pharmacy Technicians (CAPT), Pharmacy Technician Society of BC (PTSBC), and the Canadian Pharmacy Technician Educators Association (CPTEA). She is also on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Council for Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP). Dana loves bringing her years of experience to students and helping them learn and grow in the world of Pharmacy.

Daisy Robillard

Instructor, Pharmacy Technician Diploma Program

Daisy Robillard is a Regulated Pharmacy Technician and a Stenberg College Pharmacy Technician program instructor. After graduating from Vancouver Community College in 1991, Daisy secured a job in a retail pharmacy where she worked for over ten years as a Pharmacy Assistant. From 1995 on, Daisy was also working as Pharmacy Assistant with Fraser Health. In 2011 Daisy completed a Pharmacy Technician Bridging program and became a Regulated Pharmacy Technician in 2013. A Stenberg instructor since 2014, Daisy teaches online courses, as well as instructing in Stenberg’s Pharmacy Technician laboratory in Kamloops. Her favourite thing about working at Stenberg the opportunity to make a difference in her students’ lives and help them reach their goals.

Raj Mann

Instructor, Dispensing Optician Diploma Program

Raj Mann is an instructor in Stenberg’s Dispensing Optician Program. A Licensed Optician with over 20 years of experience, Raj teaches online and in-class modules, educating students on eyeglass dispensing, contact lens fitting and automated refraction. She also works as an independent contractor, fitting specialty contact lenses on film and television sets, and has served as a board member for the College of Opticians of British Columbia.

Gisele Klein

Instructor, Dispensing Optician Diploma Program

Gisele Klein is a Licensed Optician the owner of Impressive Eyewear and a Stenberg Online Instructor. Gisele holds Registered Licenses in Optician, Contact Lens fitting and Automated Refraction at the College of Opticians of British Columbia and is the past President of the Opticians Association of Canada – BC Chapter. With over 35 years of experience in the optical industry, Gisele enjoys sharing her passion with students, and is proud to have been a part of the Program Advisory Committee that crafted the Dispensing Optician program curriculum.

Wendy Scott

Instructor, Nursing Unit Clerk Diploma Program

As a Stenberg College Nursing Unit Clerk Program graduate, we are proud to have Wendy on board as an instructor. Prior to this, Wendy has worked both as a nursing unit clerk, and a Clinical Monitor. A talented artist, Wendy discovered her desire to teach over 10 years ago as a painting instructor. She finds working with students an ongoing adventure, and is thrilled when they cross the finish line and become successful graduates. Wendy is currently a member of the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators, Society of Decorative Artists, and holds her Teaching Certification. A woman of many talents, Wendy also holds her private pilot’s license.

Sharean Khan

Instructor, Nursing Unit Clerk Diploma Program

Sharean Khan is a Nursing Unit Clerk Instructor and a Stenberg graduate. After graduating from Stenberg in 2007, Sharean spent nine years working as a Nursing Unit Clerk at multiple hospitals throughout the Lower Mainland. Sharean knows from experience how important Unit Clerks are to the healthcare team and believes that “if [they] do [their] jobs well, peoples lives are saved and/or improved for the better.” Sharean enjoys mentoring students and seeing them succeed in their careers.

Rebecca MacLeod

Instructor, Health Care Assistant Certificate Program

Rebecca MacLeod is an instructor in Stenberg College’s Health Care Assistant Program. Rebecca began her career in healthcare in 2009 after graduating with a Diploma in Practical Nursing. For four years, Rebecca worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at a residential care facility in Victoria focused on geriatric mental health. Rebecca has also been employed as an LPN Team Lead with Island Health Authority, (formerly Vancouver Island Health Authority), where she worked on units for tracheostomy/ventilator support patients and quad/paraplegia patients.
She currently serves as a Lab Coordinator and teaches courses focused on caring for patients with cognitive challenges and the promotion of holistic health. Rebecca’s passion for nursing is evident, as she is currently in the process of completing a Bachelor of Nursing degree through Athabasca University.

Rebecca Deak

Instructor, Practical Nursing Diploma Program

Rebecca Deak is a 2010 graduate of Stenberg’s Practical Nursing (PN) Diploma program, and a current Stenberg College instructor. Rebecca first began her journey at Stenberg in 2009. As a student in the year-and-a-half long PN program, Rebecca excelled academically, and was hired directly off of her final practicum at Abbotsford Regional Hospital, where she has worked since 2010. Since 2014 Rebecca has taught courses in Stenberg’s PN program, including Professional Practice, Professional Communication, and Health Promotion.

Jocelyn Isaak

Instructor, Practical Nursing Diploma Program

Jocelyn Isaak is a Licensed Practical Nurse with over four years of experience in acute trauma and surgical units. Jocelyn has also worked as an international nurse in both Haiti and India. She teaches Stenberg students in-class and in clinical settings, and enjoys seeing her students grow in confidence and competence from term to term as they prepare for their career in nursing.

Rose Tiu

Instructor, Practical Nursing Diploma Program

A Licensed Practical Nurse, Rose has been instructing at Stenberg College for over 2 years. She feels tremendous pride watching her students learn and grow as professionals. Rose thrives on watching her students become wonderful nurses, and feels a sense of fulfillment being part of their educational journey. She believes the abundant career opportunities, coupled with the ability to develop personally and professionally, make nursing an excellent career choice.

Kim Bagshaw

Program Coordinator, RDPN Diploma Program

Kim holds her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Diplomas in both General Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing. She feels psychiatric nursing is a rewarding field that helps to bring hope to those with mental illness and assists them to enrich their lives. Kim has always enjoyed the academia of the teaching and learning environment, and finds the drive and dedication of her students to be the most rewarding aspect of her job.

Marita Molloy

Instructor, RDPN Diploma Program

After completing her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Victoria in 1991, Marita moved to Vancouver and earned her Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing in 1994. Her varied and rich professional career has included Detox; Community Mental Health; Neuropsychiatry; Acute Psychiatry; Mood Disorders; Co-Occurring Mental Illness and Substance Use; Residential Living and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Marita discovered her passion for education and gift for teaching when she joined the team at Stenberg as an online instructor in the Regional Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing program in 2010. Marita instructs a variety of theory courses for the RDPN program and is involved with other areas such as curriculum development. She also works as an independently contracted travel nurse. She is currently completing a Master of Science in Thanatology.

Donna Lessard

Instructor, RDPN Diploma Program

Donna Lessard is a Stenberg College RDPN instructor, and living proof that it is never to late to make a career change. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the age of 50, before going on to become the Gerontology Education Project Manager for what is now known as the Interior Health Authority, and later working as an Administrator for Berwick on the Park retirement community. Donna then went on to complete a Master of Education in 2014, and has taught a variety of online courses, including: Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology Concepts, and Philosophy. She has sat on the board of the British Columbia Seniors Association, the BC Gerontology Association as well as the Canadian Chapter, and carries a valid RN license.

Prentice Geary

Instructor, RDPN Diploma Program

Prentice Geary in an instructor and clinical monitor in Stenberg’s Regional Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing program. Prentice holds a Bachelor of Arts as while as a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing, and is currently pursing a Masters of Business Administration through the Australian Institute of Business. A Stenberg employee since 2014, Prentice also works as a Clinical Coordinator at Squamish Mental Health & Substance Use Services. Prentice has extensive experience working with marginalized populations, from indigenous people to vulnerable seniors, and rural community based mental health and addictions work to working with street entrenched individuals in Vancouver’s downtown eastside. His favourite thing about working at Stenberg is seeing his students’ level of confidence increase as they overcome their fears and master new skills.

Donna Klingspohn

Instructor, RDPN Diploma Program

Donna Klingspohn has been a Registered Psychiatric Nurse for over 30 years and has extensive experience in mental health and addiction services as well as provincial program oversight and administration. She holds a Master of Sciences, Mental Health Recovery and Social Inclusion from the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. A Stenberg instructor since 2010, Donna teaches nursing theory in several semesters with a focus on the core courses of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Addictions and non-core courses of First Nation’s Health and Introduction to Psychology. Her favourite thing about teaching at Stenberg is helping struggling students to find their “ah-ha” moment -when all the concepts and theory begin to come together in actual practice.

Allen Hoolaef

Instructor, Community Mental Health and Addictions Worker Diploma Program

Allen Hoolaeff holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of the Fraser Valley. A Stenberg instructor since 2010, Allen previously worked as the manager of a mental health group home. He is passionate about going above and beyond the regular teaching environment and using course topics and work hard to help students refine their skills while challenging their beliefs and values. Allen’s favourite thing about working at Stenberg is shaping minds and watching students grow into professionals.
